PFW JAPAN 2009
Pet Fashion Week NY has just completed its
second venture into the Japanese pet market.
We are pleased to say that once again it was a tremendous success. PFW was invited to participate in the event by JPPMA Director Nobuaki Yanagihara in an effort to expose
the Japanese pet industry to the American pet market. It has been well documented that the Japanese consumer has always had a desire for western products and the pet industry is just one more example of that.
The PFW exhibition area served as a scale version of the NY event, featuring the designer lines of Manhattan based Bullyware and LAs Chromebones. It gave attendees a taste of what PFW NY is all about. Also featured were past Lifestyle Innovation Award winners, video highlights from past shows, a segment dedicated to 2008s Les Poochs Poodle Challenge and a Swarovski exhibition featuring the award winning Fairytale Jacket by the design house of Manfred of Sweden.
Throughout the four day event the 2000sq. foot PFW exhibition area drew tremendous attention from the countless thousands of attendees and highly interested media personnel attending the event.
Media outlets included some of the largest in the Asian market including TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting Systems) and NHK which hosts Japans most popular morning program. The program featured a segment about PFW and will be able to be viewed on the PFW website in the near future. Numerous print media outlets turned out to document the event and interview PFW Executive Director Mario DiFante. When asked about PFWs goals within Japan and beyond DiFante stated, “We want to expose the rest of the world to what PFW has to offer and provide our exhibitors with opportunities that may have not been readily available in the past.” Japanese consumers from both the pet industry and general public were impressed and eager to get their hands on the collections from both the Bullyware and Chromebones collections.
Following the event Bullyware creator Nile Butta said her Japan endeavor was a “wonderful experience” and Chromebones Vice President Nando Vergara described it as a “tremendous success”.
“We are hoping this is something we can continue in other foreign markets” said PFW Trade Show Director Derek DiFante, “this event should be a tremendous catalyst.”
