2008 PFW LIFESTYLE INNOVATION AWARD FINALISTS

HugX 401 Series®

CONGRATULATIONS!
Winner of the
2008 PFW Lifestyle
Innovation Award

HUGX
Derry, Northern Ireland

Designers
Jane Grant of HugX and Justin Magee & Stephen McGilloway of Bigsmall; University of Ulster

The HugX 401 series® is a total re-think on dog dining. The bowl, which has no corners (no food traps), is angled at 32.5° from the horizontal allowing food to always fall into the center of the bowl while improving digestive issues. Each bowl has specific grips characterized subtly as ears and a tongue to prevent the user from touching food. Held in an aluminum holder which resembles the character of a dog’s body, its narrow waist creates an easy grip or handle for the user, keeping their hands away from the contents of the bowl. The high grip rubber feet and a wide foot print of the holder, prevent toppling or movement around the floor. As the dog feeds at the bespoke angle and food gravitates to the center of the bowl, a greater amount of downward pressure is exerted than side wards - the bowl, within the holder, sits firmly on the ground.

NomNom

HEPPER
Vermont, USA

Designer
Jed Crystal

The NomNom, designed for cats and small dogs, offers an elegant and functional dining experience. Its shallow trays discourage gorging and eliminate stale bits of food found at the bottom of traditional bowls. For the hungry pet, this design also includes not only one, but two removable stainless steel trays so that one is always clean and ready. Another unique feature of the Nomnom is its ribbed trays which prevents food from sliding around. A wide lip around the ceramic base was added to catch drips and dropped food.

Together with its sister design, the EatBetter™ Bowl, this duo takes into consideration the full pet dining experience. The DrinkBetter™ Bowl is designed to encourage dogs to drink at a slower and healthier pace. The bowl’s unique float configuration allows access to a small amount of water at a time, limiting spills and reducing instances of choking and vomiting. The design also decreases muzzle staining and keeps ears dry.

KEVY K DESIGNS
Nevada, USA

Designer
Kevin Thomas

Each Kevy K stone feeder is exquisitely hand carved and polished to a smooth and seamless finish by highly skilled craftsmen. The 4” high feeders provide better digestion and proper eating posture for breeds less than 10 lbs while the solid heavy stone feeders, weighing in at 8lbs, prevent rambunctious pets from moving, tipping over and damaging their feeding bowls. A stainless steel water/food bowl, finished in satin, is used to compliment the beautiful marble, onyx and travertine. Durable 0.7mm thick stainless bowls are dishwasher safe and easy to clean but best of all, no two are alike.

Rubber bowl design

VIVID PRODUCT DESIGN
Pennsylvania, USA

Designer
Velissa Van Scoyoc

A one-part design, this bowl is an all around consideration of innovation and economic design. Its built in mat protects your floor from spills while creating a natural suction allowing the bowl to stay in one place. In addition, its sound dampening qualities of rubber means that collars won’t ping on the rim allowing your pooch (and you) to eat in peace. This bowl is simple, effective and most of all, fun!
